Bringing a small web studio out of the dark, into the spotlight

Lumen is a self-initiated design experiment: a concept identity and site for a small web studio, built around a single idea, that good work deserves a spotlight. With no client to please, it was a chance to push an editorial, high-contrast look as far as it would go.

Into the spotlight

The whole idea hangs on one word. A lumen is a unit of light, so the studio's promise turns literal: take good work out of the dark and put it under a spotlight. The homepage opens on exactly that line, a single beam cutting across an otherwise quiet, editorial page.

Quietly obsessed

Flip to black and the studio speaks plainly: a small team of designers and developers, obsessive about the details, pairing meticulous design with engineering you can feel. It is the kind of about page that sells the people rather than the service.

The brief was simple: design the kind of studio that earns the spotlight.

The mark

The identity lands on a single mark: a lens flaring into a four-point star, the moment light catches. Set against the airy LUMEN wordmark, with its widened tracking and squared off E, it reads as calm and precise, a small studio that clearly sweats the millimetres.
